Hands On Technology 2024 - Lindfield Learning Village

  • This project will demonstrate how to turn your phone into a programable, interactive robot with nothing more than a handful of electronic components and a cardboard box. On day one, participants will learn to assemble the phonebot, and on day two, it will be brought to life with open-source block app coding.
  • Immerse yourself in a world of textile projects suitable for Stages 4-5. During the weekend, we will delve into multiple smaller projects to show you an array of options that can be delivered to any stage 4-5 Textiles class, especially if you have staff unable to use sewing machines. We will look into needle felting and how this can be implemented in any classroom, weaving - created from laser cut looms and wool, small machine sewing projects such as tote bags/cushions, whilst playing around with the Cricut machine and how it can be used to enhance your projects.
  • Martin Levins & Shane Byrne are both lecturers in Digital Technologies in education at University of New England and Australian Catholic University respectively.
    Both are experienced K-12 teachers and worked together in the 4 year Digital Technologies in focus project with ACARA where we worked with 160 disadvantaged schools throughout Australia, helping teachers deploy the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies Curriculum.

    Outline
    The weekend session will focus on the mechatronics component of 7–10 Computing Technology as either a stand alone or introductory course for stage 6 work.
    Our introduction will cover the requirements of the syllabus and will lead into work with microcontrollers with both sensors and actuators, and the transition from block based computing to General Purpose Programming Languages that will affect many in Stage 4. This transition will be revisited throughout the weekend, reflecting the diversity of students who may come to Stage 4 with no coding experience or are fairly proficient.
    We will move from there to the incorporation of microcontrollers with Maqueen robots, using ultrasonic sensors to aid navigation, then using servos to load and shift materials.
    Following this, we will experiment with artificial intelligence built into cameras and code the robots to carry out various missions
    We will then pick up a different form of robot with several degrees of freedom to simulate pickers or parts assembly.
    Some time will then be given to reflect on what has been achieved and possibly revisiting earlier activities, followed by a revisit of syllabus requirements to look at where these activities might best fit, and a how they could inform unit development in stage 6.
    A personal laptop will be required, with application install privileges as we will experiment with a few different coding platforms.
  • New to teaching Industrial Technology Multimedia? Or want to strengthen your practice?

    The course will be split into three sections.

    This course will firstly give you engaging and practical ideas for project based learning, scope and sequencing in Stage 5 Industrial Technology Multimedia. A variety of brief’s or “Wicked problems” will be shared with focus on multi-disciplinary learning.

    Adobe After Effects is a versatile software that has many applications and can integrate other Adobe software-animation, motion graphics and aspects of film. This section is focussed on After Effects and the various ways that the software can be used for an elective Multimedia course. You will have hands-on tuition in using the software for the above purposes and gain confidence in demonstrating the software to students.

    Finally, we will delve into the HSC Major Project and look at optimising each criteria. A collaborative approach will then be taken to share ideas and resources.
  • Craft a versatile footstool that encompasses fundamental woodwork joinery techniques while also featuring a cushioned seat for upholstery. Ideal for Stage 5 or Year 11 students, this project incorporates the use of various machines, including the band saw and lathe, to introduce additional woodworking skills.

    Gain hands-on experience and insights into the safe utilization of machines such as the table saw, drop saw, and lathe. Receive valuable tips and tricks to enhance your woodworking proficiency while ensuring a secure and productive environment.
  • Ideal for MULTIMEDIA, IST, DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY, DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY, BUSINESS STUDIES, SCIENCE, STEM
    Stages; 4 - 6. (This is a BYOD course)

    This is an onboarding and collaborative planning session for teachers that want to implement VRCreate in the classroom
    Hands-on work to develop the overall learning design mapped to timetable, curriculum, workflow and learning outcomes.
